Meanders in the Dream-Dark
(Not dated)
This work is part of Margaret’s Shadow Series. They mark her interest in the movement from dark to light, of action that occurs in the shadows. Here the figure of the woman adopts the foetal position, her nakedness symbolic of birth yet the face of the woman gazes at the world with the circumspection of the adult. Lines and scribblings surround the figure, a technique often adopted by Margaret to suggest a frenzy of thought and notions of biblical and historical scratchings, signs of before rather than the future, of dreams rather than reality. This is a work embedded in the mythological, the half shadow that continually denies the security of our existence.
